Katrin Vellrath is a composer, theater musician, producer, and musical adviser. Since 2001, she has created musical scores for theater and composed for art films, performances, installations, documentaries, and fashion shows. In her theater compositions, she often uses field recordings, generating sounds from found materials and mixing them with voices, electronic instruments, and analog instruments. Her compositions have been featured at Staatstheater Kassel, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Mozarteum Salzburg, Stadttheater Ingolstadt, Schauspiel Essen, and Volksbühne Berlin. Performances in Arises (2008–2013) as well her compositions have been showcased at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Exile Gallery, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, neugerriemschneider, saasfee*, and Schinkel Pavillon. Vellrath has collaborated with Schirin Khodadadian, Antje Majewski, Alexandra Hopf, Rebecca Riedel, Mieke Ulfig, Vizma Zvaigzne, Trevor Lee Larson, and Dennis Loesch. She also holds a master’s degree in humanities.
