CARMELO LEOTTA
Carmelo Leotta’s embarked on his professional career as a musician 1999. Initially immersed in the blues scene across Italy, he honed his skills on the electric bass before seamlessly transitioning to the upright bass. His talents caught the attention of italian renowned artists like Massimo Bubola and Eugenio Finardi, leading to engagements as a sideman. In 2005, Leotta became a pivotal member of Bobby Durham’s Trio until Durham’s passing in 2008. During this time, he shared the stage with jazz luminaries such as Archie Shepp, Benny Golson, and Jimmy Cobb, among others, enriching his musical palette. Relocating to Berlin in 2014, Leotta collaborated with diverse bands like Eric Vaghn’s naked JAZZ, Ganna Gryniva duo, Meline Benamou, Lucia Fodde Quartet, Reggie Moor Trio, Johannes Barthelmes Quartet. His bass prowess took him across Europe with various projects, showcasing his versatility and adaptability. He’s actually a steady member of the Torsten Zwingenberger Quartet and the Joel Holmes’ Expansion. Beyond his role as a sideman, Leotta emerged as a leader, composing, arranging, and recording music for both small combos like Windkammermusik, Carmelo Leotta Trio, Hybris Dudes, and big bands, like Omniversal Aerkestra and Composers Orchestra Berlin. Currently he is affiliated closely with Fat Banshee Records.
